Division of Fuel Cell and Energy Technology has made great progress in developing ultrathin high-strength planar Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) single cells as well as SOFC stack. A manufacturing line of SOFC single cells with a capacity of 2000 pc/month had been set up and taken in use. This line is the first SOFC manufacturing line in China. It produces high performance single cells of Ni-YSZ/YSZ/LSM with a thickness of 0.5 mm. The cell has a bending strength of 200 MPa and a power density of more than 0.4 W/cm2 at 750oC. Currently the SOFC single cell products have been sold to England, Switzerland, Japan, Taiwan and some Chinese institutes as well. At the same time, there is a big breakthrough in SOFC stack development where a 10-unit stack was successfully constructed giving a power output of 220 W with a power density of 0.22 W/cm2 at 750oC. Excellent long-term behavior is also achieved in a 5-unit stack where a degrading rate of 6% per 1000 hr was observed after 1400 hours at 750℃ with a constant charging current of 20 A.
